Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival, is returning to Fordham for the sixth consecutive year. It is the world’s largest student film festival, in which over 500,000 college students globally participate, offering over $150,000 in cash and prizes. Campus Movie Fest originally began in 2001 when four students from Emory University provided their fellow peers with everything needed to film their own short film, including camcorders and Apple macbooks.

The top four as scored by a campus panel of judges, will be named their Campus Jury Awards winners, earning a 12-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud (a $600 value) and advance to Campus MovieFest Hollywood. CMF Hollywood offers a variety of unique opportunities in the form of workshops, screenings and awards presented. Last year’s event at Universal Studios featured special guests Carl Reiner, Kathy Bates, Chris Parnell, Dave Coulier and more.

Last year, Fordham had a staggering 111 teams join, with 16 of the top films shown to the student body. The films ranged from comedy to drama, with some suspenseful and emotional moments. “No Data Found” won for Campus Best Picture and Campus Finalist. Nick D’Agostino, FCRH ’16, wrote, directed, filmed and edited, and starred in the film with his friend Luke McCanna, FCRH ’16. Comedy “Switch Pocket” was nominated for Best Director and a Campus Finalist, rising to number one on the online movie view leaderboard. The second most viewed movie online was a drama called “Mine,” which also received accolades for Best Actress and a Campus Finalist.

Students can sign up online on prior to CMF’s launch on April 8. The short films (up to five minutes) are due in by April 14 and judged by a panel of Fordham staff, faculty and students. On April 22, the top short movies will be shown at an apt red carpet event at Keating First Auditorium at 7 p.m. In addition to the top movies, each campus finale will also announce several Silver Tripod Winners in categories including acting, directing, writing, cinematography, editing, special effects, sound design and production design.

In addition to signing up, students can watch these films  and others from all of the colleges and students that have participated in the past.
